Family Talk: Promoting Spiritual Conversations

Writer's picture: Josh JacquardJosh Jacquard

In our busy lives, talking about spiritual stuff often gets pushed aside, but it’s super important for building a strong family bond and a deeper faith. When families have conversations about God and spirituality, they not only grow closer but also encourage one another to cultivate a sincere faith.

The Benefits of Talking About Faith

  1. Growing Together: When you talk about your beliefs, you help everyone in the family understand their faith better. It’s not just about going to church; it’s about owning your beliefs and figuring out what they mean to you.

  2. Strengthening Bonds: These conversations allow everyone to share their thoughts and feelings openly, building trust and connection within the family.

  3. Facing Challenges: Life can be tough, and talking about faith can give you the strength and wisdom to navigate challenges. Discussing what the Bible says can be a guide in tough times.

  4. Leading by Example: When parents make spiritual conversations a priority, it sets a great example for kids. They learn that faith matters and is something to explore, not just something they hear about.

  5. Encouraging Curiosity: Talking about faith opens the door for questions and exploration. It lets everyone know it’s okay to wonder and seek answers.

Some Thought Provoking Questions & Conversation Starters

  1. If you could ask God anything about your life, what would it be, and why does that matter to you?

  2. What if you could hang out with any person from the Bible for a day? Who would you pick, and what would you want to learn from them?

  3. How can God both be loving and someone we should fear?

  4. If you could enact one change in the world that reflects your beliefs, what would it be, and how would you work towards it?

  5. What challenges do you face in living out your faith, and how can we support each other in those areas?

  6. What does it mean to forgive someone? Have each member of your family write a definition and then talk about it.

  7. How do you see God's work in your life this week? Can you share a specific example?
